Birds of a feather

You guys know I'm a little obsessed with my monthly Birchbox. (It makes me feel like I'm getting free beauty supplies every month!) A few months ago, they threw a party in NYC at which guests got feathered - high-quality feathers in a range of colors applied to your hair like a hair extension! I was a little jealous. I want cool feathered hair.

Then a few weeks ago, I was tubing in West Virginia and I was insanely jealous of this preteen who had this awesome green feather in her hair! I was like, where did you get that done girl? (She seemed super flattered that I asked, so I didn't feel too creepy).

Anyway, since then, I've been toying with the idea of getting feathered. It's like getting a badass streak of pink in your hair (something I wanted to do when I was 12 and Gwen Stefani had neon hair), but less permanent.

Well, now I know where I can go in DC to get this done: one80 Salon (1275 K Street NW) is now offering the service using Featherlocks Feather Hair Extensions.

According to the salon, like hair extensions, Featherlocks can be washed, dried, flat-ironed or curled without damage. They'll stay in up to 3 weeks, but the actual extension lasts "forever" and can be repplied as many times as you want.

The only reason I haven't run out the door to get feathered is I'm just not really seeing how it's work-appropriate to have colorful feathers in your hair (unless of course you work at a salon or for an Indian tribe or something). However, a one80 stylist Jordan Pringle says that they can put the feathers in a more subtle location - at the nape of the neck - to show only when you want them to be scene - and you can use more neutral colors. If you want to go big (or go home), you can get orange or blue near the crown of your head.

Is this a hair trend you'll try?

Would You Wear? Maxi Dress

Right now, I am really wanting a maxi dress. But my better judgment has kept me from clicking "buy."

Well, my better judgment or the peanut gallery. My mom says this is a look only for tall, skinny girls. My fiance wrinkles his nose in disgust every time I contemplate purchasing one.

I, however, see a soft, easy dress with a hint of jet set glamour. The maxi dress can be worn any season, any weather; it's easy to add layers and accessories to take this from casual to glam; and best of all, can we say comfortable? I might be talking myself into buying one right now.

But on the other hand, I don't think the maxi dress look is for everyone. I do think height is a must with a dress like this (well, being 5'9" has to come in handy sometime). And it's definitely not a sexy look. But whatever - I'm already engaged!

1. T by Alexander Wang maxi dress, available at Saks: $105
2. Zara long ribbed dress, available in stores: $29.99
3. LnA open elbow maxi dress, available at Revolve: $147
4. ASOS jersey t-shirt maxi dress: $48.27
5. American Apparel baby rib long dress: $46 (I hate the way their models look/pose! Does not make the clothes appear attractive, but I think this dress is cute in person)

So would you wear this look? Or do you think this look deserves a special place in Man Repeller hall of fame?

The worst pants of the year

As a blogger, I feel as though I would be remiss in not presenting to you some sort of superlative at the end of the year. We've seen the best dressed, the worst dressed, the best ad campaigns, the best collections, the worst fashion statements...

You don't need another list like that from little old me.

So, I present you with...

THE WORST PANTS OF THE YEAR!

I could wax sartorially for hours about how AWFUL these white, lacy bellbottoms with built-in hot pants are. And I would like to thank curse Nightcap Clothing for putting these on this planet.

But apparently, there are people out there who actually liked these monstrosities, as they are now sold out at Shopbop.

We can add that to the list of "Biggest Shockers of 2010."

Would You Wear These: Jeffrey Campbell Lita Boot

I know I said I wasn't on board with the lace-up bootie trend.

But everyone has their tipping point, and these boots might be just what I need to get on the right side of this look.

Jeffrey Campbell Lita Shoe, available at Singer 22: $175

I don't know if it's the fierce - and I mean FIERCE - platform, the neutral taupe color or the wicked heel, but I can't get these out of my head. I especially love the way I saw these styled on FabSugar:

These boots speak to me. Mostly, they say "buy me! buy me!"

Then I hear my fiance say "Marta, you could never walk in those."

So, for now, I am asking you: would you wear these 5.25" platforms? And more importantly, should I buy these bad boys?

Would you wear this? Architectural underpinnings

When I first saw this Nichole de Carle lingerie on The Coveted, I gasped a little. First, I was confused by all the straps, but then I was amazed by the beauty of the structure. It's so mysterious. It's so architectural. It's also a little dominatrix.

But the real question is, would you wear this lingerie? And would your man (or lady) friend enjoy it?

Check out the rest of Nichole de Carle's lingerie on Not Just a Label.

Would you wear these? Sergio Rossi sequined over-the-knee boot

Yesterday, I got an email from Bergdorf Goodman with a subject line teasing Sergio Rossi sequined boots.

"Sequined boots?" I thought. "How is this going to look?"

Well, something like this:

Sergio Rossi, available at Bergorf Goodman: $1850

This, as Tim Gunn would say, is a lot of look.

Would you wear these nearly-$2000 boots?

Would you wear these? United Nude black frame triangle heels

United Nude black frame triangle heels: $498

Refinery29 showcased these architectural shoes, saying they are perfect to wear to trendy Thai resto Kittichai in NYC. The straps and sole are made out of leather, but the heel is made out of carbon fiber - similar to a bicycle frame. These shoes are so out there - a little robot dominatrix with an Asian influence - but I sort of love them. They don't even look that uncomfortable, but they do look like hell to walk in.

So what do you think? Would you try these shoes?
